Celebrating Generational Strengths

There’s been a lot of talk lately about generational trauma. It’s a very real thing and there is no doubt that we all carry collective trauma in our cells from traumatic experiences that previous generations of our ancestors endured.

It affects us all on varying levels and many of us today are working on breaking generational cycles, generational trauma and healing wounds that we were born with and have been embedded into our DNA for decades…sometimes centuries.

This is deep healing work and can feel very intense and while it’s important to heal these wounds it’s just as important to celebrate the generational strengths passed on to us from the women that came before us.

Let’s reflect on the positive strengths and attributes of our ancestors.

Start a journal entry or grab a sheet of paper and make a list of all of the strengths you know about your ancestors and all of the strengths and positive attributes they possess, as well as all of the positive and joyful things that have happened in their lives. You can even take it a step further and call your mother or your grandmother and ask them about the traits and memories they know and cherish about their mothers and grandmothers so that you can compile a list that reaches generations you never even got to meet. Sort of like a family tree of gratitude and appreciation for all of the positive things passed down to you.

Once you’ve made your list, keep it somewhere safe and look at it whenever you see fit. You could also write them out with a colorful pen or marker or type them out in a pretty font and put it in a frame on your wall. Make sure you share it with your family members too! 🙂
